Don has been involved in ballooning since 1983 when his son “borrowed” a balloon from his grandmother and learned to fly. After many years of crewing he taught Don how to fly, and after several years as a student pilot (no, it’s not supposed to take that long), Don earned his private and commercial certificate in 2004.
The teamwork, camaraderie, and fun times make Don’s favorite place to fly where there are lots of balloons and lots of people, especially at balloon events. In Albuquerque in 2000 there were a record 1019 registered balloons and on one morning there were 750 in the air at the same time. He says it felt about the same as dumping 750 ping pong balls into your dryer.
Don has one balloon, but has flown several different types of balloons for Re/Max and other corporate sponsors.
He says the Marysville is attractive to him not only because it sounds like a fun time but also because of the lack of “Wanted Posters” in the area. |
